ThunderDay Games is a woman-owned, BIPOC-owned, indie board game studio located in New York City, co-founded by Camille and Maxwell. We practice player-centered research methods, and bring our social impact goals directly into our game design. Hopefully, we can make games that make this world a better place, even if just a little bit.

Why Period Party
In the summer of 2023, Maxwell and I were daydreaming about building a game together using the prompt of 'cyclical phases' (like day & night). The first idea that came to my mind was: “On period & not on period.” After saying it, we both realized how wild the thought this was... but we couldn't let it go.
Growing up, similar to many women in the world, I was never happy going through my period. When my period first came at the age of 11, I panicked. I was shy to tell anyone and desperately worried I would stop growing taller. I stowed my pads deep in the depths of my backpack. I constantly asked my friends to walk behind me to ensure I had no leaks. I became an expert in discretely retrieving my pad from my backpack via a pulled down long sleeve. Though I was familiar with keeping my period low profile, I was still shocked and confused by my family's outrage when I asked my dad to purchase a new bag of pads for me. “That’s so dirty.” “He'll get bad luck.” “Why are you comfortable to ask your dad to do that for you?”
Those words and those feelings never left me. I want to make a game for future generations so they won't need to go through the shame, the doubts, and the judgments that I have gone through. But I also want to make this game for myself, and any others like me, desiring an opportunity to reconcile with the past and to truly accept the present.
And if, like me, you never celebrated your period as a girl, it's never too late to throw yourself a Period Party. This is the Period Party for all of us.

Our Principles
Deliver Impact Through Fun
There are a lot of tools out there to affect social change already. But nothing quite as approachable as a little fun.
Be Genuine
For people to empathize with other's lived experience, we must all be open and honest about how we live in the world we live in.
Remember - Every Step Counts
Taking on social issues can be a humongous undertaking. To ensure that the pressure of the world doesn't get us down, we try to remember that we are here to do what we can.
Inspire Creativity
We want what we do at ThunderDay Games to be a scaffolding which can inspire others to create further and keep pushing their imagination of how to change the world.
